RIELS FALL IN A SHOOTOUT TO THE HAWKS 4-3 – BOXSCORE

The Riels had the opportunity in the shootout to gain a much needed 2 points, but fall short and lose to the Hawks 4-3. Any point is crucial and this point in the year.
It took halfway into the first period to get the games first goal. The Hawks would score on a 3 on 2 to take the lead. The Riels would answer four minutes later. Skylar Eastman would burry his team leading 16th goal of the year. Assists came from Jacob Tresoor & Nicolas Burmey.
In the tight checking second period, the Hawks would get two consecutive goals to take the lead 3-1. The Riels would not call it quits and would answer with a pair of their own late in the period. Jens Giesbrecht would score on the Powerplay from Skylar Eastman and Justin Durupt. Seconds after, Jacob Tresoor would tie the game up at three from a nifty pass from Triston Eastman and Kris Sigurdson.
The third saw no goals as both goaltenders would shut the door. Overtime solved nothing and the game would head into a shootout. Jens Giesbrecht would score the Riels loan goal in the shootout. The Riels had 2 opportunities to win in the shootout, but could not get that much needed goal.
Tyler Gagliardi made 37 saves in a stellar performance.
RIELS FALL LATE IN THE THIRD TO THE CANUCKS 5-2 – BOXSCORE

Friday night the Riels were up against the top team in the league. Tight game until midway through the third period. The Canucks would cash in on the power play and add another to knock off the Riels.
The Canucks would get on the scoreboard first midway into the first period off a deflection in the high slot. The Canucks would add to the lead on a rebound goal. Late in the period, Matthew Gardner would score his 13th of the year on a nice wrist shot top shelf. Assists went to Rylun Bazinet & newly acquired Kris Sigurdson.
In the second period, the Canucks would continue their fast pace game outshooting the Riels 20-6. Kyle Mcholm stood tall in net, making some big saves. The Riels would tie the game late in the period as Triston Eastman would burry his 6th of the season scoring short side. Assists went to Skylar Eastman.
The third period was tight checking. The Canucks would get a power play opportunity midway through the period and would cash in to take the lead. Just over a minute later the Canucks would add another to cushion the lead. The Riels pressed and had a couple chances, but no results. The Canucks would add an empty net goal to seal the game 5-2.
RIELS WIN IN OVERTIME OVER THE VICS 5-4 – BOXSCORE
The first game in the new year would turn out to be a dandy. The Riels would come out early with the Vics coming back for the Riels to win in overtime.
The Riels came out with a lot of speed in the first period scoring 3 consecutive goals. Jacob Tresoor would score his 10th of the season off a rebound. Assists went to Nicolas Burmey & Brandon Bartley. Codey Beaulieu would add to the lead with a great in tight deke move on the vics goalie. Assists went to Jens Giesbrecht & Brenden Hill. Skylar Eastman would increase the lead by three goals scoring off a tip in front of the net. Assists went to Triston Eastman & Rylun Bazinet. The Vics would score midway through the period to come within two goals.
The Vics would come out hard in the second, scoring three straight goals to take the lead going into the third period.
The Riels would pick up the play in the third period. Matthew Gardner would tie the game up on the tic-tac-toe goal. Assists went to Codey Beaulieu & Jens Giesbrecht.
In overtime, Nic Burmey would be the hero as he netted a back hander top shelf. Assist went to Skylar Eastman. Kyle Mcholm would come away with his 6th win of the year making 32 saves.
The Twins would score consecutive goals and would hang on to beat the Riels on the last game of 2016.
In the first period, the Riels would come out and control the majority of the play. Keaton Thornton would score the first goal of the game, assists went to Jacob Tresoor and Brendan Hill. Twenty-seconds later, the Riels would add another goal coming from Tyson Stevens on a tip in front of the net. Assists went to Brayden North & Samuel Jean Paul. The Twins would answer back on a 2 on 1 midway through the period.
In the second, both teams would exchange key scoring chances, but the Twins would add one in the middle of the period and at the end of the period to take a 3-2 lead.
The Twins would score on the power powerplay two minutes into the final frame. The Riels would not give up and would come to within one goal as Skylar Eastman would score off a rebound from Codey Beaulieau & Nicolas Burmey. The Twins would hold the lead and win 4-3. Tyler Gagliardi made 35 saves in the loss.
